==The Secrets Of Super Mario 64 III==

I'm not by any means a veteran glitcher, but I found my first glitch in a Tony Hawk game. I got stuck in the roof, allowing me to spin many more times than I normally would have been able to do. I've only discovered a couple of glitches for this game.

For the light Chuckya glitch, I think I remember Alex making a comment about attempting to beat Koopa while carrying Chuckya. So then when you try to bring Chuckya to other areas, you'll eventually end up bringing him into the water, and after that it's easy to notice you act like you're carrying a light object. This was just a simple programming oversight (which they've now had the opportunity to fix in the DS version).

Actually, now that I think back, after I knew about the Chuckya glitch, I was trying to use the light Chuckya to get me through the wall into the water inside in the island, similar to how the box pushes you through the wall in Whomp's Fortress. The funny thing about this was right after a failed attempt with Chuckya, I side-flipped into the wall... and went right through! I posted that I got into the water, and I remember the original 'Secrets' topic started pretty soon after that. Recently, after more playing around with Chuckya I realised he can in fact push you through walls.

I know this should technically be in the DS forums, but no one cares there. So basically my friend did this one, I just got his DS to play with it and figured I'd take a picture and show you guys. He had a record of 44 coins in Tall, Tall Mountain, and he was going for the 100 coin star. He got the last coin in mid air, above nothing. So when he grabbed the star he just fell to his death. Mario never did his "I got a star" dance, but when he got kicked out of the level, it showed that he had gotten the 100 coin star, but still had a maximum of 44 stars. As you can see in the picture, he has all 150 stars, but his record in TTM is 44 coins. Not a huge glitch, but thought you might want to see it.

Yeah. I'm doing a file in which my record does not exceed 16 coins. If I get more than 16 coins, I kill whoever I'm controlling. (Except for the 100-coin star, where I die soon after getting it)

Iīve made a topic about this, but I put it here anyway.

The highest coin record today is 2219. This is, as we all know, the regular 2091 coins + the extra 128 gotten in Snowmanīs Land with the Clone Moneybag Trick.

But what if I told you that is actually possible to get endless (or 255) coins in more levels? More specific, The Tiny-Huge Island?

It is possible. The glitch, that I discovered, is similar to the glitch in Snowmanīs Land, but requires more skill than luck. With this trick, it is now possible to gain a total of 2283 coins in the game.

I bring you: The Endless Piranha Plant Coin Glitch.

How to do it: Go to the Tiny Island of Tiny-Huge Island. Select any star. Go to the Piranha Plant and jump into the pipe to get to the five Giant Piranha Plants, where you get the first star in this level. Now, follow these steps.

1. Walk up to any of the five plants and let it see you, but avoid itīs fire. Now, as you know, you can punch a plant to kill it no matter how big or small it is. So, the trick is to punch the plant when it is as small as possible. It must be done when the plant is shrinking, not growing. You must punch the plant EXACTLY when it is so small that it is not visible. If you punch to early, you will kill it, and if you punch to late you will miss it because it is already underground. If you are to late, the plant will grow up again and give you a new chance.

2. You know that you hit it at the right time when you "feel" that you hit it, but canīt see it. At this point, the plant will grow up again, but make the "shrinking" sound that it normally does when it dies. Now you can do either one of two things: Simply punch it and it will disappear, leaving the two coins, or let it shrink again into the ground, which will make it disappear as well, leaving the two coins. The plant is gone and have left the regular two coins, but it is not really "dead".

3. Repeat with the other four plants. If you killed at least one plant with the trick mentioned above, the star should not appear. The more plants you killed this way, the better. Itīs also important that you know exactly which ones of the five plants you have killed using my method.

4. Jump into the pipe and back again. The five plants should be respawned. If you failed killing any plant with my method, kill those quickly as usual. They wonīt give any coins. But the ones you killed with my method, will! You will get two extra coins for every plant you killed this way!

5. But itīs not over. To continue to gain coins, repeat my method, jump into the pipe and back, repeat... You will get two coins for every plant killed by punching them exactly when they disappear. Just remember that it must be done with the same plants, because the ones you killed the regular way wonīt give any more coins.

6. When all five plants finally dies by punching them as usual, the star will appear. If you want to begin the process again, you must exit the level. Then you can do it again with five, fresh, coin-holding plants.

Using my method, it is possible to gain endless coin, even if only 255 will be recorded. Note that you wonīt get any extra lives for 200 and 250 coins when you clear the level. (Only 50, 100 and 150.)

This trick is very hard to master, and requires practice and patience. I can do it almost flawlessly, even if it takes a while.

Hereīs the new High Score:

1. 146
2. 141
3. 104
4. 154
5. 151
6. 139
7. 133
8. 136
9. 106
10. 127 + X = 255
11. 152
12. 137
13. 191 + Y = 255
14. 128
15. 146
Total coins: 2283

X= 128
Y= 64

^ Here we have a VERY INTERESTING coincidence! 128 and 64!!!

Also, isnīt it strange that you can get endless coins on the two levels that has an invisible coin?

Just a quick question, I managed to hit the plant while it was invisible, as you said, and when it reappeard it did make the 'shrinking' noise as you said, it then disappeared and left two coins. Then I jumped in the pipe twice to get back to huge island and punched the same plant, but when it died it didn't give me any more coins. My question is, do I have to do the glitch a second time to get any extra coins?

No, it is supposed to give two coins at that point.

I could be that you must punch it after all, not let it shrink. My mistake. I thought I was sure about that one.

Iīve tried it on the smaller plants as well, without result. But there isnīt any of those in the main levels.

As it looks now, someone will probably fins a way to reach 255 in every level... The right enemy is the key, as in my Piranha Plant Glitch and the Moneybag Glitch.

I just came to a weird Conclusion:

you know how our highest coin total is now 2283?

you know how we keep increasing and increasing that # as we find more stuff?

What if we got to 2401?!?!

Could that possibly make "L Real"?

Ok, i have alot to say with little time being that im grounded.
A)Im not new, Im Young Linkie 2004, but my email is down and i forgot my password
B)im chancing this by pretending to be doing my homework
C)If you dont believe me, bite me
D)If you dont know who i am, bite me

Ok, i dont know if this has been noticed, but, in Cool Cool Mountain in the slide, you can long jump off the right, sorta of hugging the wall, then hold back a second, then push forward, and land on the end of the slide skipping pretty much the whole slide. It is VERY TRICKY,and i mean VERY!!!! but possible.unfortunately i cant post a video, and if i could, then it would be on a ROM, and my comp is too slow for N64 ROMs

Im going to check out the slide at Tall Tall Mountain, but i doubt theres anything. Also, i found this out after getting so pissed that i couldnt jump from the start to the platform below that i just long jump off the side, and landed on the peice of slide (ploop,ow) jump off, going ploof, minus health again, and then almost making it, but fell off.

Oh yeah, To do this, you must go under the first part, skimming marios hat i should say, and then land near the end, ploof, minus health, and starting to go down. it is very tricky

Majora...excellent work! Every few weeks something new is discovered about this game :)

One really excellent thing to point out about this new coin glitch is that it renders the existence of the Impossible Coin meaningless. No longer is there a "potentially higher score". No more "well, we can get this many coins in the game, but we'd have one more if we could get the Impossible Coin." It officially doesn't matter anymore, in terms of coin total. It's still fun to try to discover ways to collect it, but it's lost its significance in calculating coin totals :)

The horrible thing is that I have been knowing this glitch for almost 8 years... I thought everyone knew about it, so I let it be.

But a few days ago, when I by accident found the page with the Clone Moneybag Glitch, I saw that the Piranha Glitch wasnīt discovered, so I decided to share it.

Oh, by the way, looks like I was the first one to actually get 2283 coins on a saved file. :-)

The only way to do that, however, would be to take the Chuckya, jump into the water, get high enough to get into the slide, and do some kind of cheaty glitchy thing there.

This is just an idea, but...maybe it's possible to bypass the 8-star door by using the stairs in the middle of the lobby to speed jump there. (This would have to be done at an awkward angle, though.)

Wouldn't the Chuckya disappear as soon as Mario got warped from the mountain's outside area to the top of the slide?

Incidentally, could someone repost exactly how to do that? I haven't been able to recmember how.

Iīm confused. You are walking with a tree like it was one of those violet bomb things. (Chukya, or what you call them.) But how? And what does it have to do with coins?

Anyway, new coin record, I guess.

2091 + Moneybag = 2219

2219 + Piranha Plant = 2283

255 - 152 = 103

2283 + Swimming With A Tree = 2386

Letīs forget the L is real thing now, ok?

Okey, so itīs POSSIBLE to do those weird glitches and eventually end up with 255 coins. (Thatīs the only thing I personally care about.) But to do that, I must understand the "basics" in these glitches, such as going through walls with Chuckya, getting out of town, swim with Chuckya and all other stuff.

The thing is, I donīt know ANYTHING about these glitches, since I came to this board for the first time when I posted the Piranha Plant Glitch. So I guess I have to read everything here and try it out, step by step.

Heck, I canīt do anyone of these glitches, not even get on top of the castle without the cannon or swim through textures. Iīm a good player, but canīt do anything practically. Itīs a matter of practice, I guess.

OH!!!! This is crazy. The next time I say something is impossible, remind me of this. You've done it again.

This glitch actually complicates things, in a way. There's the theoretical 255 coins, as well as a new cap/cannon-less star! To get 255 coins in this level we would have to pull off the Chuckya Trick 52 times, without ever missing once. So to get 255 we'll probably need a better method of getting Chuckya into water. Here's a video for those who want to see my way of doing it:
http://rapidshare.de/files-en/486641/Chuckya_Trick.wmv.html
Also, you can check my post on 12/19/2004 in this topic, to see when I first brought Chuckya into the town by using a gameshark code.

I've been trying to imagine how this could be possible, and I just got an idea... I'll go test it out now. Thanks for the advance notice before revealing the method.
From: Dom Dunc | Posted: 2/4/2005 9:38:54 PM | Message Detail
I've had a hell of a lot of practice with the chuckya glitch and I can nail it pretty much every time, I think it's definitely possible for a human to pull off 255 coins in this level.

Just a quick update on the state of things: I finished the write up for this glitch (un... it's 1200 words...) and I'm going to bed now, give me a few hours tomorrow morning to make the video. Then I'll post it all. That is, unless you want to find it out for yourself Brightguy ;)

From: Bullet Bill | Posted: 2/4/2005 11:41:11 PM | Message Detail
Dom Dunc: I'd like to know what got Bullet Bill interested in glitches since he seems to be the most knowledgeable on this board.

I actually collected a little here and a little there, collecting and trying glitches as I found them, gathering them on my webpage. As far as I remember, I either found them myself or from the internet. And the most spectacular glitches I found right at this board!

Brightguy: I was trying to use the light Chuckya to get me through the wall into the water inside in the island, similar to how the box pushes you through the wall in Whomp's Fortress.

By throwing him into the wall and jumping after him? Or did you think you could put him down and use him as a wedge?

The funny thing about this was right after a failed attempt with Chuckya, I side-flipped into the wall... and went right through!

Which wall, the one where Chuck-Ya first appears in THI? Or did you find a way to sideflip into the cannon island?

I posted that I got into the water, and I remember the original 'Secrets' topic started pretty soon after that. Recently, after more playing around with Chuckya I realised he can in fact push you through walls.

This also makes the wiggler glitch easier, by the way.

Kirby_Of_Doom: Ok, i dont know if this has been noticed, but, in Cool Cool Mountain in the slide, you can long jump off the right, sorta of hugging the wall, then hold back a second, then push forward, and land on the end of the slide skipping pretty much the whole slide.

I have done this once.

Im going to check out the slide at Tall Tall Mountain, but i doubt theres anything.

Actually that slide is strange. It has three sections at load separately. The second part is the biggest, and it is relatively easy to jump from the beginning to the end of it - easier than the snow slide jump anyway.

ToiletDuck64: ...maybe it's possible to bypass the 8-star door by using the stairs in the middle of the lobby to speed jump there. (This would have to be done at an awkward angle, though.)

I doubt it. The stairs are too steep and I've not been able to get any speed on it at any angle. I've been trying to dive into the 8-star door at various angles though. You might way I'm getting desperate.

Wouldn't the Chuckya disappear as soon as Mario got warped from the mountain's outside area to the top of the slide?

I'm sure he would. Best way to test would be to try bringing him into a more accessible subcourse like Wiggler's red coins cave.

Dom Dunc: Don't worry, tomorrow I'll give a very detailed explanation of the glitch, and how to do it. Using information from this topic you SHOULD be able to get faily close to the glitch, but there is one vital trick which I recently found that clicks the whole puzzle into place. It's actually devilishly simple.

I'm rubbing my hands as I wait for this revelation. I have only one guess as to how you do it, something about a glitchy slope.

I also remain interested in your trick of dropping through the wall to the pipe. Does the new glitch you have encompass this one?

I've been trying with no success. After experimenting, I know it's possible if you can somehow move a dock or push one of those blocks off from the wall. But I still don't know how you did it... I'm stumped. As for the possibility of getting 255 coins... it'll take a lot of practice, that's for sure. You have to be able to do it every time without fail... and it might also take too long to get yourself holding a coin, since it's random from what I've seen.

DarkPhoenix84: Wow... you did it too? Chuckya is useless in the town... (did you try throwing him?) You're supposed to warp back and forth between the town and the main area.

OK, here we go.

WARNING: VERY LONG POST.

The Chuckya Glitch

A video to go along with this tutorial can be found here:
http://www.vortiginous.com/domdunc/chuckyaglitch.wmv

Glitch: Infinite coins in Wet-Dry world, a new capless/cannonless star, Turn Chuckya (the purple creature that looks similar to a large bob-omb) into other objects, carry trees/coins/platforms and many other oddities.

Discovered by: I?m going to list this as a collaboration between me (Dom Dunc) and Brightguy. He first discovered the glitch with a GameShark and later worked out the first step without a GameShark. I then figured out the last step (step 3).

Tutorial:

Step 1, Get Chuckya off his platform) This is probably the most difficult part of the glitch to pull off consistently. Jump into Wet-Dry world at any height, make sure the water is at a level at which you can get onto the curved concrete ramp, but make sure the ramp is not fully submerged. Make your way to Chuckya. Grab him. You?ll notice that Mario has trouble walking with him, we?ll soon fix that. Walk to the edge of Chuckya?s platform so that Mario automatically throws him off the edge, now immediately tap A to perform a small jump and hold forward. The idea is to pass UNDER Chuckya, as he?s falling to the platform below, and land just in front of him, so he grabs you just before he lands.

Step 2, Make Chuckya light) OK, leave Chuckya roaming around on the platform he?s now on (he?ll try and walk through the wall, just leave him there) and make your way to the highest crystal and hit it. Chuckya should now be submerged. Swim over to him and grab him. Now take him to the ramp where the highest crystal is and walk up it with Chuckya in hand. You should now notice that Mario can move much faster and even jump while holding Chuckya!
From: Dom Dunc | Posted: 2/5/2005 6:13:58 AM | Message Detail
Ground rules for handling light Cuckya) Do not press B, you?ll throw him and you?ll have to start again from scratch. Do not jump while walking on a slope, this caught me out once, don?t let it happen to you. Do not let Mario catch onto the edge of anything. Do not let Mario bang his head or hit a wall so he makes the ?Oof? sound.

Step 3, In to the pipe we go!) This very neat step is fairly simple to pull off once you get the technique down, but it was an absolute nightmare figuring out for the first time. We are going to utilize a well-known and universally hated (until now) programming flaw in SM64?s physics. The Stutter. You?ve all seen it, you land on a platform, just on the edge, and Mario stutters along it for a few seconds before falling into oblivion. To use this to your advantage, while still holding chuckya jump up onto the first step at the end of the platform you?re on. Face Mario away from the pipe into town, his line of sight should be parallel to the grey wall. Now turn Mario slightly to his right (this is important). He should now be facing away from the pipe and slightly towards the grey wall. Shift the camera to Mario?s left, for the sake of easy directions. Now jump straight up and hold UP to land on the grey slope. Mario should land on his stomach (also important) and stutter one or two times. Immediately hold UP + RIGHT (very important). While you are holding up + right Mario will stutter along the edge of the slope towards the pipe, as soon as you are over the fence let go of the stick and you?ll immediately drop off the slope into the pipe. CONGRATULATIONS! GLITCH COMPLETE!

Step 4, the fun stuff) Now swim down through the pipe. About halfway through there is an invisible loading point. Swim back and forth through this point and you?ll notice that Chuckya disappears and other objects from the level appear in his place. Some are useful some just look weird.

Objects that can appear) Any object from the loading zone you are in. i.e. You can only get red coins when on the ?town side? of the loading point*. The object can be polygon or sprite but it has to be a moving or interactive object (so no buildings or scenery, but platforms, enemies and coins are fair game). Try placing some down, some work as normal objects, some partly work and some don?t work at all.
*Blue coins seem to break this rule.

Infinite Coins) At the start of the glitch make sure you enter the level at the top of the painting to raise the water as high as possible (this allows you to jump back out of the pipe once you?ve done the glitch). Perform the glitch and swim through the loading point until you are holding a red coin (blue may work, untested) press B to drop the coin, collecting it at the same time adding 2 coins to your total (confusingly, it won?t disappear) now swim back through the pipe and perform the whole Chuckya glitch again and get another coin. Repeat until you have as many as you want. Now collect all the rest of the coins in the level. This order is important, if you collect all the coins first, none will appear as a result of the glitch. (note: only 255 coins max will be listed in you high score)

New Capless-Cannonless Star) (note: not yet fully tested). Simply perform the glitch, and swim back and forth through the loading point until you end up holding a star on the town side of the loading zone. Simply drop the star and collect it. BOOM, you got the ?race through downtown? star without using a cap or cannon. If somehow you ended up with a different star, simply repeat until you get the correct one.

Author?s notes) This is possibly the strangest glitch I?ve ever seen in a video game, and I have quite some experience in that area, it?s as if there is a built in GameShark inside the game switching objects in front of your very eyes.

The discovery of this glitch is also quite an interesting story, in the middle of December, last year, Brightguy figured out (with a GameShark) that if you took Chuckya though the loading point he changed into different objects. Then quickly found how to take chuckya off his initial platform without a GameShark. Then he got stuck. As did I. Anyway, discussion moved away from this glitch, everyone pretty much giving up on it. It stewed in my brain for a couple of months, then, I finally remembered that I often got glitchy stutters on that grey slope. I worked out a rough method of stuttering across it without Chuckya, then spent about 4-5 hours figuring out how to do it WITH Chuckya (Mario would often throw chuckya for apparently no reason) Finally I figured out the above method and got it to work.

Personally, I really like the simple exploitation of a well know programming error, I think it?s nice and neat. It?s a simple pleasure, but I am amused by simple things like that.

Finally, I?d like to issue a mission to all who read this; help! When experimenting with this glitch, I got some really weird objects to appear, such as the cannon, a single exclamation point, bubbles, and various platforms. My request is that everyone tests what these objects do when dropped, and post about it on the forum, I?d love to know what some of this stuff does.

Wow! That's an amazing trick. I probably wouldn't have thought of that for a long time... I'll go try it out right now.

Also, because of save states, I've been able to try dropping all the items that I've obtained. I've already posted about a few of them back in December, I think. Anyway, blue coins don't work, unfortunately. This is probably because the switch has to be active. In fact, if you use a blue coin and then hit the switch, you'll notice one blue coin is missing. The bubbles and platforms will float where you dropped them, and you can pass right through them. Instead of the cannon, I got the cannon-cover, since the cannon wasn't unlocked yet. Also, I see you got a water-crystal... I probably got one but didn't even know it because they didn't show up in my emulator. I think I'll make a page for this glitch and its various effects.

Great write-up and video as well!!!

Eventually I'll update that page with all the discoveries about this glitch, although it might not be until later in the week, because I'm going to be busy the next couple of days. So, I'm not going to be able to work on improving my coin score.

Like you said, the discovery of this glitch has an interesting story behind it. The reason I tried to bring Chuckya into the pipe in the first place was because I wanted to use him in the town to push me through the fence to get another cc-less star. Ironically, even though you can't bring Chuckya into the town, he still allows you to get the star.

And I found out that Chuckya could push you through walls after playing around with him... because of that topic where someone said they brought Chuckya into the castle. Similarly, because I attempted that castle glitch I knew that Chuckya wouldn't break into coins if he catches you in the air. Once again, it's ironic that if weren't for that Chuckya castle glitch someone reported, then we probably wouldn't know about this right now, even though we never got that castle glitch to work.

What a great glitch to end this topic with! And I presume you're going to continue it with ==The Secrets Of Super Mario 64 IV==? Since people might be interested in reading the archives, I'm going to put all the links on one page. So perhaps include a link to http://www.geocities.com/sm64home/archive.html
Also, I might replace gera2000's video sometime... so maybe we should include video links on page that can be updated?
For example: http://www.geocities.com/sm64home/videos.html
(I just threw all my video links together, I still have to organize them.)

I got a switch and placed it. It appears as if a solid switch. I don't remember what it does, I think nothing.

I got a huge block, but throwing it did nothing. Same with a pushable block and a pink Bob-Omb.

I got what looked like a fire-spitter (except with an enormous shadow); when I threw it it stayed where it was but nothing happened.

It looks like if you get a coin (any color) it WILL disappear after a while, so when you first identify it as being a coin throw it immediately. You will get the coin, but there will still be a floating coin image to remind you.

Heres a fairly obvious thought guys:

If this works through a loading point, the glitch I mean, if we can find loading points in other levels, maybe we can pull it off there too.

And this is Darkphoenix reporting, ill be glithing today, and hope to find a new chuckya loading point

Other Chuckya levels: Tall, Tall Mountain and Rainbow Ride. (Tiny-Huge Island should be irrelevant.) Rainbow Ride has no loading points, I think, and Tall, Tall Mountain has the slide entrance, which shouldnīt work. So I guess that the glitch only works in Wet-Dry World...

Argh... I canīt see your movies, probably since Iīm a Mac user.

Just a few questions...

To do the Chuckya glitch, you said that the water canīt be so high that the lower part of the slope is under water. But still, it is required to have the highest water level to get out of the town pipe. How did you do that? How can you throw down Chuckya when the platform under is under water?

The random item that Chuckya becomes, does it changes if I swim back and forth through the loading zone?

Someone create the IV Secret topic now!

Oh, and the first one who reaches 2386 coins (Dom Dunc? Me?) should create a "Post here if you have reached 2386 coins" topic.
