==The Secrets Of Super Mario 64 III==
From: mario freak | Posted: 9/20/2004 7:44:27 PM | Message Detail
I think they're called spindrifts.....

Anyway, I have a few new glitches of my own to share. This first one I can't explain, so you'll just have to bear with me. As soon as I turned on my N64, Mario's head popped up, like it always does. But this time it was a bird's eye view, and all I could see was his hat. It still spun around, but I couldn't see his face.

For the second one, climb the tree farthest up the steep hill to the left of the cannon outside. Go about halfway up, then just sort of position yourself with your back facing where you started. Now, having the Lakitu camera just as it was when you started, you should see right through the hill, and into the moat. It should appear to be dried up, even when it's not. You can even see the shadow of the bridge when the moat's filled.

I was going to say another one, but I forgot what it was. :-]

Wait, I remember now!

I was doing the Speed Jump up the "endless" stairs yesterday, and I got going really fast, and just disappeared from view. A few seconds later, I just popped out of thin air at the bottom of the stairs. I was able to do this a few times.

(sorry for the triple post, my comp. is acting up.)

I also have found an interesting glitch: go to the doors on either side of the foyer stairway. Now try to back Lakitu into the corner as much as you can. The camera will shake, then go through the wall! Interesting, huh?

mario freak: "For those of you who are trying to swim under the castle, this may benefit you. I did the speed jump again, but went off to the left. At this point, I had no control, and I was shooting around the back of the tower with Mario laying down on his back. As I got to the right side, Mario suddenly stopped, half of him passed through the roof, then he just teetered there for a second. However, he just popped back up through the roof"

Were you moving across the flat of the roof when you started to sink into it? Or do you think you ran into something like the tower itself?

its a me mario "if you butt-stomp onto one of the brick towers in Shifting Sand Land, you will get stuck in it"

I'm assuming you have to fall from a height, like when flying over it.

"Also in Shifting Sand Land, when I entered the pyramid once, I tried to go back up through the entrance (the regular way). I wall kicked off one of the side walls and went into the trap door. I was able to wall kick very quickly up to four times, but it didn't really accomplish anything."

I levitated into it when I had my Gameshark. It's plugged shut. You won't get back outside.

"There's a shortcut in Snowman's Land...a slope with a fence on top. You can easily triple jump the hill and find yourself not only very close to the snowman's head, but on the other side of the course."

I went there and found myself at the start of the path up the snowman.

mario freak: "As soon as I turned on my N64, Mario's head popped up, like it always does. But this time it was a bird's eye view, and all I could see was his hat."

Did you find out when you did to cause this? Maybe you were holding a C button when you turned it on.

"I was doing the Speed Jump up the "endless" stairs yesterday, and I got going really fast, and just disappeared from view. A few seconds later, I just popped out of thin air at the bottom of the stairs. I was able to do this a few times."

Once I was racing up the stairs and somehow I ended up standing on the entrance ledge to Tick Tock Clock.

smithkakarot: "I also have found an interesting glitch: go to the doors on either side of the foyer stairway. Now try to back Lakitu into the corner as much as you can. The camera will shake, then go through the wall! Interesting, huh?"

Of course Mario cam is necessary to do this. I did it at the corner to the left of the right wooden door and C-zoomed. When I let it out, the camera got stuck behind the wall. Is this what you did? Continue to experiment with camera angles in the castle. It is especially important to discover things like this because stop cam doesn't work there.

While on this matter, I just figured out a way to get Lakitu out of the fish tank while Mario is in it. I was in the left tank with my back to the corner closest to the painting. I zoomed in, then let it back out. The camera went behind the back wall for a moment, when out into the room. I quickly went to Mario cam and zoomed out. From that point I could get a good wide angle view of the window, with Mario inside it.

Try this out:

Juggle the Bob-ombs!
Let a Bob-omb walk close to a wall. Then drop kick him at the wall. He will bounce off the wall; you can kick him again and again as long as you can bounce him off the wall and he doesn't touch the ground. The most times I can kick him is three before I'm pushed too far away to kick him again. Can anybody juggle one longer?

And if you kick either just before or just as he touches the ground, he'll expand the way he does before he blow up, except he won't explode 'till he touches the ground again. I read in a topic once that somebody kicked a Bob-omb and actually grabbed him when he expanded!

Well, here's a new glitch that I can't explain. I had just killed the last bowser, and had turned on the mario cam. The giant star was already in the middle of the platform, and I walked over to the edge of one of the points. I zoomed all of the way in, then zoomed out. After I did this, I heard a sound effect like a door slamming, and the game froze.

I've discovered that something very odd happens to those hop blocks in Tick Tock Clock. If Mario is far enough away from them, they will look like this:

http://img41.exs.cx/img41/2227/ttc_mp.jpg

Notice the floating screw heads near the upper left corner. There should be some hop blocks there.

Sorry for butting in, but I just had to say that, using the Wall Kick method, I was able to stay up there for a good 5 minutes or so. You're probably thinking I was using a Turbo Controller. Well, I wasn't. My thumb was aching like nothing else, I swear!

I've also been checking here a lot, and I must say, all of this looks interesting. Keep it up!

ok im new here, but i have been reading these for the past couple of weeks and i discovered something less than mildly interesting that perhaps could be exploited into something very interesting. this may have been said before so bare with me. in the castly lobby, there is that slanted sky colored wall above the door to the upstairs that you can walk on for a short distance. if you go to the left of the door (this may work on the right too, i dont know) and find where the slanted wall meets the vertical wall and jump at the exact right spot you will get stuck in a squatting position similar to the start of a butt stomp. then if you jump you will kindof twitch once but not really move and it will make the double jump noise. (btw you have to be holding up on the control stick to keep for sliding off) so while you are still in this little angle of the ceiling/wall if you tap a really really fast you will jump really really fast but you wont move, just make the sound and you will notice sometimes you will hear the sound for a triple jump. if you stop pressing a right when you do the triple jump, it will show you spinning the triple jump stuck in that position and after it is done rotating, you will stay in the position that you are in before you hit the ground in a triple jump and levitate up the wall very slowly...i didnt mess around with this too much so im sure there are many more things you can do with this. i didnt do it much because it was too annoying jumping up and getting stuck in the first place. if this glitch is anything its probably just a way to do a triple jump standing still without a wing cap or who knows this could be used somehow to get all the way to the ceiling or maybe even warp through the key door. use your imagination, try the other side, and if you need better explanation, just ask me. if this is absolutely nothing or was talked about in detail earlier, please disregard it and call me stupid if you wish...hope this helps
From: jammer01 | Posted: 10/10/2004 7:15:19 PM | Message Detail
another note on the above post-
in that squatting position i talked about, you are facing away from the wall, but as soon as you first jump (you will stay there for about 10-15 seconds without jumping) you will turn around and face the wall.
also, kicking and butt-stomping cause you to come back down. I also saw sometimes you would make the noise of a single jump but i never tried to stop the animation there, maybe you levitate on that one too.

Having watched the 16 minute gameplay demonstration
over at Gamespot, I've decided to write up my feelings
about this game (leaning of course towards glitch
hunting ;-).

Firstly, the storyline tries to stay faithful to the original
(Peach invites the gang over to the castle for some cake,
but, uh-oh, Bowser wasn't invited, so he throws a
temper tantrum and steals all the stars again, that big
baby) and you start the game as Yoshi.

Immediately I can see an opportunity for some glitches,
there are TONS of new rabbits running around outside
the castle. If they've left the MIPS bump glitch intact, I
smell a black room of death already! One question
though, where did they all come from? MIPS was single...

Also, the individual character special moves look to me
like they're going to make the game open to tons of
exploits. For example, Luigi can now jump as though he's
hit a spindrift, ANYWHERE. I guess this means it'll be
really easy to land on the pillars in Princess' Secret Slide,
plus a bunch of other places that normally you can't
reach...

It looks like the longjump is still in the game, whether
the've fixed the backwards longjump glitch remains to be
seen.

The room that used to lead only to Princess' Secret Slide
now seems to lead to many different rooms, I can just
see myself MIPS bumping into all of the right now...

I can't wait to play the new levels in this game, hopefully
they'll have made them with a little imagination, and not
just slung a bunch of blocks together, added the music
from Wet-Dry World and slapped on a snappy title.

An interesting note is that the guy giving the
demonstration doesn't seem to be well versed in the
original game. He mentions a yellow switch block...

The mushrooms look like a fun new feature, hopefully we
can find some exploits to take advantage to the extra
size.

Nice to hear some music from the old school NES Mario
Games in there.

The mini-games look like an interesting diversion from
the main adventure mode in this game, they all seem to
be stylus based, so that may be a glitch goldmine
depending on how well they execute it.

I must say I'm not entirely convinced about the
non-analogue control, and I can't see myself using the
thimble thingy to control it with my thumb, but hopefully
it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Well, on the whole, I'm pretty excited about playing this
game, I'm really hoping they don't screw up one of the
(in my opinion) best games ever made.

Hmm... I experimented a bit with Jammer's suggestion, but couldn't find anything really interesting, just that you can get caught in the ceiling and float there. The backwards longjump doesn't give enough height for you to jump up and get stuck in that position, meaning that there's probably no hope of using it to push through the wall. Oh well, it was a good suggestion though.

Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
We’ll just pass him there
Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel
In the great magnetic field
Where he traveled time
For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him
He just stares at the world
Planning his vengeance
That he will soon unfold

Now the time is here
For iron man to spread fear
Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him
They just turn their heads
Nobody helps him
Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead
Fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
Iron man lives again!

Sorry, I just think that that is a great song.

I just did that. Looked neat. It's hard to decide whether to classify this as an "active" glitch (like Mario going through a wall) or a "visual" glitch (looking through walls with C). While it is true someone is actually doing it, Mario is only watching it.

But this glitch does point out how collision detection is more strictly enforced with your avatar than it is with the game characters. Reminds me of my dreams, in which everyone can go through walls except me.

Not unless you can figure out how to get Mario to do one of two things:

I have a question that I really need answered..... how do you do the backwards long jump glitch for going up stairs really fast and stuff?
From: Bullet Bill | Posted: 10/23/2004 10:25:14 PM | Message Detail
Do a series of long jumps toward the camera. While doing them, reverse the control stick, and you will start doing the long jumps backwards away from the camera.

Now take this to the endless stairs (when they are endless), and do the jumps backwards up the stairs, facing the camera below.

Hold the controller so you hit the A button with the forefinger. Then strobe the button as fast as you can while mario back-jumps up the stairs (Yahoo, Yahoo, Yahoo, etc). If you can maintain the Yahoo sequence long enough, he may at some point begin to move really fast, going (Ya-ya-yayayayayaya), and eventually he comes to the top of the stairs.

It seems that it's time for a lot of us, Dom Dunc in particular, to investigate the new glitch that MELEEOWNER90210 came upon. It seems he found himself swimming in the hidden slide subcourse in Tall, Tall Mountain. And he's done it more than once. This may sound like a hoax, however a previous report of this same glitch was posted here some time ago.

MELEEOWNER90210, maybe you can figure out exactly what you are doing to make it happen. Now if it's happening even when you don't want it to, it might be a defective cartridge. But then that should be affecting more than just this subcourse. However, if you think you may be doing something tricky to make it happen, see if you can figure that out.

If it provides any clue, someone here also reported going up the endless stairs for a long time and then suddenly was swimming.
