I have already gone through that wall in Bob-omb Battlefield, and it just kills you (your hat disappears for a second too, like in the castle roof). Try it by yourself with a corkbox, it's easy.

...wow, I'm not sure if anyone remembers me (I'm the guy who found the floor under the Big Boo merry go round with a gameshark), but wow, some of these finds are great. Especially the Wet Dry World ones, and yet I don't even have time to do them. X_X

Great work. I want to however find a way to get under the merry go round..mm..

PabloX rulz: I have already gone through that wall in Bob-omb Battlefield, and it just kills you (your hat disappears for a second too, like in the castle roof). Try it by yourself with a corkbox, it's easy.

You mean the wall along the barely-climbable hill with the red coin, or the cravasse next to the boulders in the trough? Funny, but I can't see the hat disappear when I do the crevasse one.

smithkakarot: Wow, it's been a while since I've posted in The Secrets of Mario 64. I didn't get zapped off the Hall of Fame, did I?

Well, welcome back. I don't even remember who instituted the hall of fame list, or whether he is till keeping track of it. It may have been CHOCLAIR5.

Magic Mario: I FINALLY BEAT THE GAME WITH 16 STARS! It took me an hour and a half to do it though.... Took forever to ge the damn bunny through the door.

Congratulations. Did you try the easier rabbit glitch? Push against the right edge of the door, stop and press Z. You merge with the door right away.

Now you can try to get into the fake stairs room and the glass bottom room.

anthpel11: ...wow, I'm not sure if anyone remembers me (I'm the guy who found the floor under the Big Boo merry go round with a gameshark)...I want to however find a way to get under the merry go round..mm..

Just keep looking for polygon glitches. I would suspect that reasons for that floor being there are not manifest. Someone said it may have served a temporary purpose during the testing phase. Or maybe the game requires there always to be a non-moving ground under Mario. Of course, there is no requirement that such a ground have a texture. The floating mountain courses have an invisible floor that serves this purpose.

Tried to get under the floor last night, I was unsucessful, but the most interesting thing was when I backwords longjumped (It's when you reverse the control stick after a long jump right?) next to the red grating on the other side, and the game slowed down a bit. Maybe it could have been the camera, but meh.

I don't understand this. Can someone post a video of the "easier" way?

Yesterday, I played Mario 64 and something weird happened with the view in "Tower of the Wing Cap". When I entered, the camera was at the lowest possible point in the level (It was on the invisible floor on the bottom of the level). Mario was extremely far away. The camera was stuck, but it was still, and it was just plain weird. It's not a major glitch, though.

Am I considered a glitch hunter? If not, then what are the requirements of being one?
Anyone can hunt for glitches... some require a little thinking, and some are found completely by accident. I think you qualify since you notified us about the chain chomp gate glitch.

I don't understand this. Can someone post a video of the "easier" way?
I'm not sure if everyone thinks that it is the easier way... everyone I've seen doing speed runs must have found the jumping method more consistent. Anyway, I did have a video of the trick from before: http://rapidshare.de/files/1421703/MIPS_Trick.wmv.html
From: ToiletDuck64 | Posted: 4/25/2005 3:12:56 AM | Message Detail
We should try to glitch through walls in the merry-go-round area; that way we might be able to find out if that floor really is supposed to protect Mario from "out-of-bounds" death.

Brightguy can you explain how you did that in the video?

It looked like it was a lot easyer then the backwards Z slide into the door trick.

You just have to walk up to the right side of the door and press Z to drop MIPS, while continuing to hold the control stick... and sometimes you'll be pushed right into the door. Then crawl and turn around to grab MIPS. It looks easy in the video, but it doesn't always work. Also, unfortunately when you turn around sometimes you aren't close enough to grab MIPS.

No wonder it wasn't working right when I tryed it that way.... I was letting go of the rabbet and THEN hitting the Z button.

Thanks a bunch.

anthpel11: when I backwords longjumped (It's when you reverse the control stick after a long jump right?) next to the red grating on the other side, and the game slowed down a bit.

What were you originally trying to do with the jump there? Did you find a place there where the backward speed jump works?

Mega Man 5: something weird happened with the view in "Tower of the Wing Cap". When I entered, the camera was at the lowest possible point in the level (It was on the invisible floor on the bottom of the level).

http://billygard.home.comcast.net/mario/screens/towerfromdeep.jpg
You mean like this? I did this by doing a well-timed butt-slam so that Mario is upside down at the moment of entry.

Brightguy: I'm not sure if everyone thinks that it is the easier way... everyone I've seen doing speed runs must have found the jumping method more consistent.

Although I've done the older method a couple of times, I never really got the hang of it. Repeated times I will either go all the way through the door, or bang my forehead above the door. But with the Z-method I merge a good third of the time.

ToiletDuck64: We should try to glitch through walls in the merry-go-round area; that way we might be able to find out if that floor really is supposed to protect Mario from "out-of-bounds" death.

Since anthpel11 did get under there with a GS, I know the floor does protect you from an OOB. But it only does so in the immediate vicinity of the merrygoround.

Brightguy: You just have to walk up to the right side of the door and press Z to drop MIPS, while continuing to hold the control stick... and sometimes you'll be pushed right into the door. Then crawl and turn around to grab MIPS. It looks easy in the video, but it doesn't always work. Also, unfortunately when you turn around sometimes you aren't close enough to grab MIPS.

I always released the stick before hitting Z. So that isn't necessary heh? No wonder you got through so fast.

The real need is to find out what determines how close to the door MIPS lands, so you can make sure he is always within reach.

Magic Mario: No wonder it wasn't working right when I tryed it that way.... I was letting go of the rabbet and THEN hitting the Z button.

You mean letting go of the joystick, right? Like I said I've been doing it that way all this time and it worked fine.

Actually, whether you put him down with B or with Z, Mario will still merge.

"What were you originally trying to do with the jump there? Did you find a place there where the backward speed jump works?"

Speed jump? You mean like how you get up the endless stairs and for the beat the game with 30/16 stars? Oh no, I haven't found a way for that...I'm not even sure if it's even possible. I was trying to see if there was a way to get under the floor through the wall.

But looking back on what I did, even if I did go through the wall, I probably would have just landed on the merry go round floor (not the steel one under it).

I'll look for ways to get under it as soon as I can, I'm busy with other games like Conker's multiplayer mode.

I think I should mention this. The "Limbo" glitch in Tall, Tall Mountain is the one where Mario and Chuck-Ya and stuck floating in the vertical wind, right?

If so, it was actually discovered about a year and a half ago. I was over my friend Sean's house and he was playing, and actually discovered that. We posted it here and I guess no one really cared about it...

No, the limbo glitch is the one where chuckya grabs you then immmediately falls off the platform into oblivion, freezing the game.

That was the first way it happened to me. But when I learned how to do it, I walked off the edge throwing Chuck-Ya and moved under him so he grabbed me in mid air, then we fell to the bottom and got stuck.

By the way, the limbo can be done right above the start area as well.

I guess I should put some work into those coin glitches again.

Unfortunately, the hall of fame went sour, but I wanted to get that matter resolved. I'm still waiting for that update to DarkPhoenix's FAQ.

And I kept getting similar e-mails from different e-mail accounts asking for stuff about the money bags glitch. Do you know anything about that, DarkPhoenix?

ameba2: You entered one of the rooms from the main area (Course 1, 2, 3, 4 or Princess's Secret Slide) and then changed the camera to Mario Mode. Then you pressed C-down and went to the main area again.

Correct. It's amazing how long we can be a Mario 64 Savant and still miss this one.

qqwref: Is that the camera or the bombs? If the bombs, I know how.

It is the bombs. They're gone.

peteyboo: Did you happen to use my camera trick from the last Secrets in the Bob-omb Battlefield room and Princess's Secret Slide room, respectively?

I'd like to see that post. I don't remember how you worded it.

I actually discovered this trick when I was in the bowser hallway trying to glitch past the trapdoor (unsuccessfully). I happened to be using distant Mario cam mode. When I went out to the foyer, I noticed that something was strange.

Since you can't enter this camera angle while in the foyer, chances are this wasn't intended to be possible, so you could call it a glitch of sorts.

By the way, I found out that the camera angle trick works in BBH as well. Inside the camera acts just like in the castle foyer. But you can zoom out before you enter. The library is the only room inside where you can zoom out.

The balcony is the one place outside where you can't zoom out. So you have to zoom out before getting there. Then it will make it easier to get to the star.

ameba2: I figured out how to do it! You have to press C-down during the battle and stay as far as possible from Bowser.

If you found out that the bombs disappear when the camera is far enough away, that's interesting, since I actually got rid of the bombs in my trick. However, I still haven't found out a way to collect the key after the bombs are gone. Maybe Dom Dunc will figure that one out.

Oh, you were talking about the bombs. I thought you meant the camera angle. :P Anyway, is really easy to get the key after the bombs are gone. Just let one bomb and kill Bowser with it.

I don't think it's possible to kill Bowser after destroying the bombs, though. No matter who does the glitching, you just won't be able to. That would be like finding a way to defeat Whomp with a well-placed punch-punch-kick combo.

If a character falls from 10 feet just by jumping off a platform, they go "ouch" and take several points of damage. Why in the heck then, when they explode from a cannon and launch 100 feet in the air, they don't hurt themselves when they go splat on the ground? Also, wouldn't it get hurt if they explode right into a wall from a cannon?

If the search for Mario secrets has finally lost its flair, when is bumping going to lose its flair?

There should be a special moderator whose job it is to delete all bump posts, and to adjust the "days since last post" counter accordingly.
