==Secrets of SM64, Part 4==
From: Brightguy | Posted: 3/21/2005 12:49:57 AM | Message Detail
Do you use backward jumping to get up the crawlable wall behind the lake, and up to where Bob-Omb Buddy is?
Yes, although I brought him back to where Chuckya started instead of going to the bob-omb buddy.

Is there a hill you can kick up that will let you bypass the final large gap?
Yes, it's right after the rolling log.

And finally, did you try to bring Chuck-Ya into the slide?
I did test that out, just in case. As predicted, you lose Chuckya.

The other BROD's are...?
There are black rooms every time you enter a door and the screen fades out.
From: peteyboo | Posted: 3/21/2005 12:58:55 AM | Message Detail
If you backwards longjump up the beach at the correct angle, and you get enough speed, you can get through the door into the BRoD. I've never done it, but someone definitely mentioned it in the last secrets topic.

That was me. I discovered that it's possible, though very difficult. For some reason, Mario sometimes just turns at the bridge and goes straight through the door.

Does anyone have advice to getting ChuckYa to catch you? I can only do it once every 30 tries.

And Dom, does your website send spam or popups, because I've been getting a lot of popups since i went to your site.

Uh, dark?
Super Smash Brothers is written as SSB, while melee is SSBM.
Not SSB64.

Also, where is the loading point exactly, because when i brought chuckya down there, i went all the way to town and still it didn't change.

Yeah, it usually does that. Just go back through the pipe. The loading point is somewhere between the arrows. There may be three arrows (I wasn't paying attention) so it's between the first and second arrows. (starting from the main area if there's three)

As I said, I don't pay that much attention.

Off-topic: Does anyone know the Secret Slide record in this version. I'm in a race for the fastest time on the DS, and I'm winning, but I just want to know. I can't seem to get below 13.8 seconds on the N64, but look at my DS time if you care.

Nice glitches with the Chuck-ya, never thought that any of these could be done. I couldn't of thought of those. But I was wondering, is there anybody who has used the BLJ (Backward Long-Jump) trick to get through the 8-Star door or the 2nd floor key door? I haven't heard anything about it since the discovery of getting to Jolly Roger Bay early using the BLJ. So, any updates? I haven't had any luck so far in doing the trick.

There must be a way to break into the 2nd floor earlier, even earlier than Dom Dunc's "Finish the game with only 16 stars" trick. You are technically "breaking" into the 2nd floor early due to the fact you're not supposed to be up there until you get 30 stars and beat Bowser 2. I want to see if it's possible to break into the key door extrememly early in the game. On Billy Gard's site (under the most wanted secrets list or something) he says that he once heard from someone that a cheat book says how to "break in" to the 2nd floor. Heck, this may be impossible to do. I'm just wondering why it isn't such a major trick people have been wanting to do. I guess this is one of the many "unsolved mysteries" of Super Mario 64, along with the statue in the castle courtyard. Maybe if I have some free time I can inspect the main lobby and see IF it's possible using some known methods.

It's actually 31 stars, but... whatever. You were close.

At least five people have a time of 0'12"4.

I was wondering, has anybody archived the third Secrets topic?
Yes, you can find it here: http://www.geocities.com/sm64home/secretsIII0.html

Getting the bob-omb king down to the bottom of the mountain had been discussed several times in the past, but there haven't been any interesting discoveries.

I can't remember if the bob-omb Rainbow Ride wall trick has been mentioned here before, but it has happened to me several times.

If we broke through the door leading to the second floor, we would find ourselves in another black room, and we would be trapped inside without the key. So, unless there is some other way of getting onto the second floor, we will always need the second Bowser key.

DarkPhoenix84: The other BROD's are...?

The two others that are accessible are located at 1) the keyed door to the basement, and 2) the door in the moat.

Some others which are inaccessible are at: 1) the keyed door to the upstairs, 2) the door to the courtyard, and 3) the door exiting the snow slide.

Brightguy: (In TTM) ...I brought him back to where Chuckya started instead of going to the bob-omb buddy.

I saw a video of Mario going up that slope. It's beyond my skill level, with Chuck-Ya or without.

DarkPhoenix84: http://rapidshare.de/files/956293/Bob_omb_Glitches.wmv.html

In the first video, did you get the Bob-Omb boss past the gap you have to jump over? How would you have done that?

jslover123: Billy Gard's site (under the most wanted secrets list or something) he says that he once heard from someone that a cheat book says how to "break in" to the 2nd floor.

I actually got that report from someone who posted it here. He says he looked at his cousin's game file, and he saw some stars collected in Snowman's Land, but the door to the upstairs was still locked! The cousin says s/he got this glitch from a magazine. So we figured it must involve getting upstairs without unlocking it. He doesn't think a Gameshark was present, but the memory is too long ago for that to be for sure.

I only got the Bob-Omb King as far as the gap where you MUST jump to get over it.

The other one, there was a wooden plank there, so I could take BobOmb King across it.

I cant get farher than what you see.

I guess noone else can either, as noone can figure a way around that jump.

Any Ideas Bullet?

In the DS version, you drop Chuckya when you try to bring him into water. Also, I don't think he will pick you up in the air anymore.

I have a feeling the the Chain Chomp's Gate glitch is only interesting to those who haven't managed to get it, so they have reached a stuck point. Now everyone's probably going back to work on the glitches that they are having trouble with, like the Chain Chomp one and the Behind the Bowser Trapdoor glitch. Few have gotten either of these.

It may be time to recycle some older glitches such as this: In Whomps Fortress go stand in the corner just behind the owl's tree with your back to the wall but facing diagonally toward the fence. Move the camera directly in front of Mario. Jump off the cliff toward the camera, and then quickly hook backward away from the camera so Mario moves under the mountain. If you get under in time, you will hear a splash and Mario will reappear from above and fall back down to the starting point.

Now I get it. I first thought getting the star behind Chain Chomps gate was nothing special. That star is easy enough and can be collected first in the game. So getting it without releasing Chain Chomp wouldn't be anything interesting, even if you try a no-coin run.

But then I realized that there's a red coin on top of the pole. My mistake. Now I understand why this is so appreciated.

... Wait, this got confusing...

This isn't really a glitch, but it's worth noting. In "Bomb-Omb Battlefield", go to the cannon about halfway up the mountain. Turn around, and you should see a hill (not the one with the red coin, the other one). The wall to your left is glitchy. Maybe if we can get through it, it'll prove (or disprove) the "Die if no shadow is cast" theory.

On that same hill, if you slide backwards dow the hill, jump, and start moonwalking, You'll go very fast. Perhaps fast enough to go through walls?

Also, in "Snowman's Land", the wall to the left of the snow machine (the one that you have to triple jump over) is glitchy. We might be able to go through it and find ourselves swimming.

And one last thing. Am I considered a glitch hunter? If not, then what are the requirements of being one?

Here's a little glitch. In Shifting Sand Land, go the entrance of the pyramid (not the one at the top). Now instead of entering it normally, dive into it. If you somehow do it right (it has happened to me just once), Mario should land in the black hole and then stand up. If you try to move you will inmediately enter to the pyramid.

I suppose you mean that level area with the enterable cannon and the large cork box, just up the long hill with the red coin half way up (not the cannon that shoots water bombs). Is the mountain side alongside that hill the one you are referring to? How did you figure out that there was a glitch in it? Is it one of those walls that you can go half-way through producing broken graphics?

And peteyboo, If you died during the jumping trick in Whomp's Fortress, you were too far down by the time you "caught water". Funny how Mario can still move even after the dying cinema has begun. The same thing happens if you are too far down when you do the "swim in Cool, Cool Mountain" glitch.
