Isn't it odd that we're talking about HTML in a Glitch topic? Does anyone actually have anything to talk about that's on-topic?

Nope. I just wanna know how to type in italics. I found out, also.
Does anyone have anything to talk about that's on topic?
Yeah, how come no one gives a **** about MY

Smithkakarot, welcome to the marshes. When I did the glitch where you overflow the "downtown" area, do you know what I found above the ceiling? Skimmers. Do you know what I found when I posted my achievement here? Crickets.

Erm...what happens if you use that glitch to get the water level high enough to be above the floor of the upper area?

I'm new here. Anyway, if you were to get the water level above the ceiling, the skimmers would skim around the new surface. Lower it from there, and the skimmers would walk on land above the ceiling, as soon as the level touches the above ground floor and goes underway. I studied the data protocol to find that out, because of the adaptation of water upward, pushing the skimmers. Then, the lowering water process is smoother, not forcing the skimmers to go under the top of the ceiling. They would be in a new certain kind of environment, "abyssal floor," where the floor, walls, and ceiling are invisible. Kind of like Dom Dunc's discovery of the "wet room of death." Quite literally in this case. There is no way out of this room for Mario to escape, except for pausing and then selecting exit course. The only way for the skimmers to vanish, is by Mario defeating them. And yes, whatever I spoke of that goes for the skimmers, happens to Mario, if he is at the surface or close enough to it.

Have you actually managed to get Mario above the ceiling with the skimmers or is that just hypothetical.
Yeah, how come no one gives a **** about MY

I'm sure everyone appreciates your tricks, it's just that there isn't really anything to discuss with them... Your trick that allows you to drown whilst metal is another exploitation of the game code that means Mario doesn't actually die until his 'squashed' animation has finishied (same as 'flying while dead')
Do you know what I found when I posted my achievement here? Crickets.

Cue the tumble weed.
I don't know about anyone else but I certainly found Bill's pics of the skimmers (along with his other experimentation with the water glitch) to be quite useful, anything of that nature helps you build up a picture of how the game works, which helps when looking for glitches.
Incase anyone noticed I was away last week so couldn't contribute, but now I'm back so things might pick up from me. Also, both me and CHOCLAIR5 (aka the Candyman) are working on SM64 videos at the moment so that'll give you something to look forward too, (but I've kind of run out of ideas for my video so it may never appear...)
I've also got to get the vids back online for my website, so once that's done i'll have more spare time.

ToiletDuck64: "Erm...what happens if you use that glitch to get the water level high enough to be above the floor of the upper area?"
What a good question. As far as I know now, it could just cause you to have scary dreams about attacks by invisible people.
But seriously, I doubt whether anything spectacular would happen, because the game loads only one area at a time. When you go up the pipe and the upper area appears, the downtown vanishes along with its water.
However, since the two areas are spacially disjoint, it is still unknown what may result from such an encroachment as you describe. I definitely plan to try this.
Chrisjh0223: "I'm new here. Anyway, if you were to get the water level above the ceiling, the skimmers would skim around the new surface. Welcome to the Mario 64 mecca.
Have you seen the bugs remain above the ceiling after raising the water there and lowering it again? Where did you study this data protocol? Do you mean that when the upper area goes black as you enter the downtown, it still exists but in an "invisible" sort of way?
If you have been studying the actual structure of the game world and its behavior, you will be uniquely valuable here. We may be asking you about a lot of other behaviors of the game. Ones such as: is the water surface that extends underneath the castle actually part of the "world space" (i.e. Mario could swim down there if only he could get through a wall), or is it outside the "world border" (i.e. Mario would die instantly if he entered that area)?
"They would be in a new certain kind of environment, "abyssal floor," where the floor, walls, and ceiling are invisible. Kind of like Dom Dunc's discovery of the "wet room of death." I've raised the water above the ceiling, and the skimmers with it, but I still haven't got Mario up there. You need to show us how that is done.

Hey...surprised to see this topic made it to 400+. Wow.
Anyway, I'm here to ask if there is a link with the "beating the game with 16 stars" video. My friend would like to see it, he doesn't believe me when I tell him it's possible.
I might be posting some crap on here some time. Talk to you all later.

No,don't turn this into one of those mindless topics, let's have a serious discussion.
What,in your opinion,is the hardest glitch to perform in SM64?I'd probably say that getting to the top of the castle from the left is pretty hard.

OK, I need help, I'm in the middle of making a SM64 music video, the theme of the vid is the 'Hall of Fame' and the idea was that each member had a clip in the video, along with footage that represents that person (for example, I used footage of the secret lagoon for Neo Ninja, footage of the dry pipe for myself etc.) but I'm having trouble thinking of footage for the members that do not have any particular glitches associated with them.
So, I'm asking for ideas for footage to represent:
Its A Me Mario
ToiletDuck
Alex Penev
Glitches Are Cool
PabloX Rulz
Blackstar
(Note: I know ToiletDuck came up with some glitches but I can't remember them...)
Thanks for any input.

Thanks CHOCLAIR5, that's a good idea. Anyone got any others?
While I'm here:
New Glitch: Out of Bounds in Wet-Dry World
Make your way up to chukya's platform in Wet-Dry World, lure him into the corner of his platfro where the two grey walls intersect, make sure he doesn't grab you. If you did it right almost all of his body should be inside the walls. Now jump on top of the chuckya so that he grabs hold of you. 90% of the time he'll turn and throw you back onto his platform, but sometimes he'll turn towards the verticle wall and throw you through it. Don't get you're hopes up though, you can walk around out here, you just die instantly. This glitch further shows that if you get outside of the world boundaries you die automatically, as in the castle roof death glitch.

Dom, don't forget a video of my "swim in Cool Cool Mountain" glitch.
The new Chuck-Ya glitch you found sounds interesting. I'll have to try that.
There seems to be a consistency in this "Out Of Bounds" fault that occurs in various places. Notice how Mario always casts a shadow directly under him. Well, it may be when the game finds nothing underneath Mario to cast a shadow on that the game trips the Out Of Bounds" fault, thus killing Mario, probably to prevent the program from crashing.
One will naturally wonder why no OOB fault occurs when Mario goes over a cliff. I am guessing that courses with a "fall" zone like Cool, Cool Mountain have some kind of invisible floor at the bottom. I base this on a screenshot that PabloX rulz posted, where Mario does cast a shadow on the "invisible" course bottom.
http://pablocm.tripod.com/sm64/snap04.gif
Let me clarify that a death from falling is a result of entering some kind of death event box, and is not an OOB fault. You can tell the difference because in a falling death Bowser doesn't laugh, but in an OOB fault he does.

Two things.
1:
*votes for smithkakarot*
2:
I know ToiletDuck came up with some glitches but I can't remember them...
Erm...one of the big ones I found was a glitch in Hazy Maze Cave where you can stop the camera at the island in the middle of the lagoon, and, while keeping it stopped there, go out of the lagoon, through the tunnel, and back up the elevator, and then when you approach the door that you came in from, you can see the room where the falling rocks are pop in out of nowhere.
Another one was that the cloud on which Lakitu's reflection is riding can be seen from near the entrance to Wing Cap Heaven if you get the camera through a wall at just the right place.

I feel like a noob. I visit this board and everyone is talking about glitches I have yet to even try.
Some glitches I have come across may have been discovered already. Some are death glitches, a couple of which I think I posted earlier, any time within the past 6 months.
The first one is dying when you enter the metal hat course. I know I posted this one before. You have to have only two sections of health left. Go to the pool entrance to the metal cap course in HMC. The objective here is to triple jump off the higher green ground, wall kick off the wall (at the height of the jump), and land in the pool.
If done correctly you should enter the course and die. If done on your first trip there, the text will be displayed. Make sure you triple jump off the highest ground, not the lower/lighter ground. It might sound weird, but it works, and it's funny to see.
Another death glitch is when you get the basement key, lower your health to two sections. Go to the hallway leading to the basement and the courtyard. You want to long jump at the top of the steps leading to the basement and land in front of the door. You should die, but you open the door, then you die. The trick here is to avoid the wall over the steps as you go down. I think I posted this one before too.
As for this video, I'm not too sure what you mean. If it involves me uploading a video of me performing a glitch, you can forget that.
Reading this thread makes me want to go glitch hunting. Hmmm...where to start?

Smithers: Fine, sir. I'll get him started on some snappy Sinbad-esque material.

First of all, let me add my vote for smithkakarot, mainly for his "shoot through the bridge" glitch in Cool, Cool Mountain.
Secondly, I experimented some more with flooding the downtown WDW, in consideration of Chrisjh0223's notes. I raised the water until it was considerably higher than the floor of the upper area.
When you enter the downtown area with the water already above the ceiling, you can arrive in time to see the skimmers still rising slowly up to the surface, and disappearing through the ceiling.
However, when I hit the crystal to return the water to its "normal" high level, the skimmers came down with the water through the ceiling. They didn't stay up in the "abyssal floor" as was supposed.
I also returned to the upper area after over-flooding the downtown to look for strange behaviors like "ghost" skimmers and invisible water surfaces, and unfortunately found nothing of the sort. Since the two areas only "exist" one at a time, such bizarre encroachments weren't to be expected anyway.
When you consider that you can walk on dry ground in the downtown even though it is entirely beneath the water in the upper area, you know that the upper area disappears both visually and functionally when you enter the downtown. So it is to be assumed that the mutual exclusion works in the opposite direction as well.

How does one do the aquarium glitch?
From my site:
This is a tough glitch to pull off, so be prepared to put some effort in if you want to do it. To perform the glitch, go to the aquarium room (the room that contains the painting that leads to Jolly Rodger Bay) go up to the glass panel to the immediate left of the painting (the glitch works on both sides, but for the sake of direction use this window) go to the left edge of this window, where it touches the wall, walk into this area and you should see that when you walk into it, it bumps Mario around. Now you need to turn Mario around so he faces away from this seam, now start doing backwards longjumps at it. You may need to adjust your angle several times as it needs to be very specific. You'll know you've got the angle right by rapidly tapping A when you hit the ground, if you start to do multiple jumps you have the correct angle. Once you have the angle right you simply need to keep doing backwards longjumps but when you touch the ground, rapidly (and I mean RAPIDLY) hit the A button, with a bit of luck, and a lot of sweat you'll manage to get 3 or 4 jumps in every time you hit the ground, keep doing this and eventually you'll pick up a lot of speed and pop through the glass into the aquarium. There isn't actually any water in there so you just run around on the floor and look at the pretty fish. Also you'll notice that there is no way back out of the aquarium so you'll need to reset at some point.

Dom, don't forget a video of my "swim in Cool Cool Mountain" glitch.
Don't worry, it already included.
'ToiletDuck' and 'Its a me Mario': Thanks alot, that helps me greatly.

More glitches:
Another death glitch:
I was playing in Whomp's Fortress when I achieved this one by accident. You have to choose the first star, and you must have only two sections of health left. Go up to the long pole on the observation deck. Rotate Mario so his back is to Whomp (you should see king Whomp walking in place).
Jump for the summit and belly dive, if you did it correctly you should lose all your health, but still get up to talk to Whomp. After he's done talking he'll smash you while you're sitting down.
Another glitch I have may have been done before. Go to the work area (where the eight red coins are) of Hazy Maze Cave. Put the camera on fix, and walk to the map in the room (on the ground near the two poles). put Mario right up against the map. Zoom in as if you were looking around, and hold R. Still holding R, zoom out. Do not let go of R.
Now walk around the corner toward the door leading to the gas maze. When you get close to the door you should see the entire maze appear, and if you walk away it should vanish. Cool to see.
One other thing I have noticed that a few of you might know already is concerned with the room leading up to the first Bowser. We all know the picture turns from Peach to Bowser, but what some people don't know is that the change is based on the camera's distance, not Mario's distance, from the trap door.
A good way to see this is to go about 3/4 of the way to the trap door. Put the camera on Latiku and zoom in and out. You should notice the picture changing between looking more like Bowser, and looking more like Peach.
I'm honored to be in the Mario glitch hall of fame (is that what it is?). I haven't contributed any big-time glitches, but I've found my share, and I've been around since gera2000 reported the 31 star glitch, and we all thought it was BS. I still play this game nearly every day, and it's great to see there are others playing it too.

Ok, this is our 498th post in this topic.
Dom Dunc, for me, you can include the "floating Mario" glitch in the second bowser stage.

Push up on the control stick while the elevator is moving up or down and Mario will try to push against an invisible wall that's above the cage (remember the investigations the people did to this barrier?). Depending on the angle you give to the analog stick, Mario will be pushing in different positions.
The're also a minor glitch that I posted long ago that involved doing a triple jump in the right part of the castle with the wing cap on (in the ledge used to get on top of the castle). The third jump animation is cut because of Mario sliding down, but you get the flying camera mode (pressing the C-buttons will move the camera to the sides).
