"I am having trouble getting through walls. I can rotate my camera around them, but I can't get through them..."
To get Lakitu through a wall, try standing with your back or side to a wall zooming up to look-around mode and rotating the camera. Lakitu easily goes in. Mario can only go through walls that have polygon glitches.
"Within the first half hour of play, would you believe I already manage to discover a new glitch? Heheh....I'll report back on this one later."
I can hardly wait.
"Dom Dunc: I really appreciate you re-encoding the video's for everyone. That's really nice of you. Thanks."
I finally saw the videos. The only thing I still haven't done is the one leading to the black room.
"And another thing, do you have to use cheat codes to enter the secret area in Cool, Cool Mountain?"
No. In fact you don't have to go through any walls either. Just get on a Spindrift and float directly under the Penguin pond.
"Awesome. I just figured it out too. How long have you known about that area, Bullet Bill?"
I discovered it just recently. I was drifting under the ground using Spindrift power, and I heard a splash before dying. Then I realized what I just did. Water in this game is "infinitely deep", so you have only to get under the pond and the game thinks you're swimming in it. You do want to use Mario Cam to look up so you can spot the water. --- "Mario! The power of thirty-one stars is restored to the castle. ...THIRTY ONE? Okay, I'll make you a cupcake." |

:UPDATE: "I tried to go over the cage with the levitating trick but there were invisible walls surrounding the cage. You could only grab the litle borders, but no more."
Incase anyone was interested, it's possible to reach the purple border without the help of a cheat device.

PabloX rulz is correct. Apparently there's an invisible wall around the top of the cage. Pretty strange how the developers went out of their way to put them in.

Yep, I did it today, I didn't get your instructions at first but I worked it out. I also worked out that 'Warp' trick you were talking about, I popped up under the ground that you find the monkey on.
Are you going to share with us how you get to this secret lagoon then, I'm sure we'd all like to see a video if possible.

":New Area Found: Look at this picture. http://www.geocities.com/shanereuter/smario1.JPG Where am I...?"
Well if that don't beat all. I have a few guesses as to where you are:
-You got outside the sunken ship after draining it. -You got outside the wall around the secret underground lake. -You got outside the tunnel leading to Boo's merrygoround.
I'd love to know which, and how to get to it.

"How do I know which walls I can go through? I tried many different walls, but I can't seem to get through any of them..Could you give me a list of some walls?"
Here are the main ones I can think of:
Outside the castle, the front of the tower on the middle landing, leading to the "black room". Most people know about this one.
In Whomp's Fortress, throw a cork box into the side of the light gray ramp near the wading area. Jump in after it.
In Huge Island, side flip dive or long jump into the wall next to Chuck-ya.
In Tall Tall Mountain, move slightly left of the starting pad and long jump over the pond into the shaded portion of the wall.
These tricks may take several tries to get them to work.
*****
Neo Ninja, I'm also interested in that watery picture where you stand on air and push against an invisible wall. I still don't know where that is.

"Neo Ninja, I'm also interested in that watery picture where you stand on air and push against an invisible wall. I still don't know where that is."
Heheh... You should know that one! It's in the very same spot where the secret pond is located (Cool, Cool Mountain). Now I could be wrong here, but it just matters which direction you enter from. By going around the outer side of the level you'll usually land in the water (which I'm guessing you do), but if you take another route, you'll end up getting stuck pushing an invisible wall like shown in the picture.

From: Bullet Bill | Posted: 11/8/2003 4:42:46 AM | Message Detail |
Okay, Neo Ninja, I did it. I started out as if to do the swim trick. But when I heard the splash I just kept pushing. That's when I found your invisible wall. This is fantastic.
I knew it was one of the snow courses because the picture has snowflakes. I first thought you managed to go underground in Snowman's Land and walked on the bottom course boundary.
Someone recently posted about trying to land on the Bob-Omb Buddy's island and missing. Then he got stuck in mid air as if in snow. When he got unstuck he fell away. I wonder if this is where it happened. But it would require the unlikely feat of making it under the pond without a Spindrift. Impossible?
* * * * *
Okey dokey, now it's time for the secret lagoon. As I examine the game, it looks like either you managed to clear the wall around the underground lake, or you got outside of the sunken ship (I trick I believe you mentioned wanting to achieve).
When I do the trick of falling down to the lake from an above room, I can dive toward the wall while I'm still far above it. It appears as though I am about to go over it easily, but I either hit an invisible barrier or I die instantly. Did you find a way to get over it successfully using this jump? Or did you find a wall you can go through?
I found a wall in the sunken ship that is angled so you can do a series of real fast backward long jumps in place. I've gone through other walls doing this, but this one seems not to give. Did you get through this one?
I didn't rule out the possibility that you got outside the wall in "downtown", the only other water surrounded by darkness within a course.

I'll explain everything within the next two days. Right now I'm kind of busy visiting an old friend. Word of caution: Don't get your hopes up too high, it's not that great honestly. You'll soon see why...
Dom Dunc: Awesome videos, man. This is just what we needed to spice up the topic. Please, keep them coming if you can! I'm going to take a serious look at my camera and see what exactly is wrong. Last time I tried saving a video (me performing the Cool, Cool Mountain trick) the whole computer locked up and I had re-install all this garbage. Not a pretty site..
Bullet Bill: You're very close to finding the area. No long jumps or side-flips are necessary.
"In Whomp's Fortress, throw a cork box into the side of the light gray ramp near the wading area. Jump in after it."
Oh, so that's what everyone meant? I always did it another way. Just pick up the box and jump at the brown wall (which you can side-flip through), right before Mario reaches contact throw it. You should go right though. --- Majority of collection -http://users.ign.com/collection/chem-x.net |

There's another wall in Whomp's that you can go through this way? Which brown wall? The sloped brick wall near the coin circle? That would be better, because that brings you directly into a bigger water area underneath. The person who origionally gave this glitch on Dave Wonn's site ("Whomps like to swim") hadn't explored it very much, and he thought you had to stay under water to avoid coming back out into the regular course area. He didn't yet find the two large water areas in back.
BTW, you can swim through the wall back out to the start point.

I don't know if Bullet Bill posted this before, but if you drain the downtown and walk through the the tunnel back to overworld (with gameshark), you'll get some strange properties. For instance, if you walk far enough you'll meet with a wall of water were the "other" part of the world loads. --- It's just wrong when you ask your uncle if you can touch his "psi-balls" ~ Vashu The Stampedo, Paranormal board |
From: Bullet Bill | Posted: 11/10/2003 12:02:20 AM | Message Detail |
Now I'm looking for a way to do that without a gameshark. The only way I can think of would be to start the water draining and swim like crazy up to the pipe and leap through it. Kudo's on anyone who can pull this off.
The avi's are interesting. Instead of throwing the cork box into the wall, it is just placed in front of the wall and used as a wedge to force Mario in. Toad is used in the basement in a similar way to get inside a pillar. Maybe someone can use the fence near the waterfall in a similar way to drop into the water underground.

Has anybody tried investigating the yellow wall to the right of the waterfall, If you jump into it before you've drained the water, it shows some weird anomalies (similar to those shown by other wally you can pass through in the game). I've tried jumping into it, flying into it diving into it and got nothing.
If you swing the camera round you can see that it would be easy to swim under the castle if you could pass through this wall. I've made a video that shows you what I'm talking about.

Tom Dunc, that was a pretty impressive high jump from the water. It is ironic that in water Mario can often sink his body into walls, even out of sight at times. But the very same water interferes with getting officialy "through" it.

Progress report: I made it inside the ceiling edge as you described. And I put the joystick on the bottom left and swam. But I just kept going around in circles. I can't figure it out before I need to go back for more air.
Do you just keep the joystick on the bottom left until you reach the surface? Or is there a particular path through the wall you are trying to follow?
After he gets in the wall, does he swim along the inside of the ceiling edge toward the opposite side? is he swimming straight up? Does he escape through the hull of the ship and swim outside it?

Thanks to the return of Neo Ninja and his video seminar, I found his secret lagoon. While true there is a catch, with that narrow invisible chimney Mario is stuck in, it is still fantastic. It is just about what I pictured the first time I set eyes on his screenshot, which is coming out on top of something covered with water. Mario really did go somethwere and it's not just a camera trick.
I was able to leap out of the water once, but even that is difficult with the narrow space you are given. Getting back down is a breeze. I even finished the course.
If there were a way to get in the water under the castle, I wonder if that place is wrought with these pesky invisible walls as well.

Hi guys. First time posting in this topic. I've had the game since release (in fact, it was the first game I actually played) and I'm kinda surprised I missed all this stuff... o_O
Anyway, I happen to have a few interesting tidbits including a glitch I haven't seen anywhere on the net. I'm too lazy to post it all so here's a link to the page on my site that talks about SM64. http://n64chick7.tripod.com/n64chickssite/id122.html

I've only read the first like 40 posts, so don't be mad at me. I'm surprised no one here knows what Blackstar is talking about. When you enter the Basement via the doorway in the hall that leads to Dire, Dire Docks, if you keep to the left you will come to a dead-end with Toad. There is a column-type thing behind Toad. If you jump above Toad so that you try and land behind him, eventually you will land INSIDE the column. Easier than it sounds, and it's not even that cool.

Here's a little trick that you probably already know about, 'reaching the castle roof without the cannon from the left hand side'.
All you have to do is do a series of back-kicks up the green slope to the left of the castle, move along towards the castle, over the waterfall and onto the roof. It's a lot more difficult than it sounds.
I have a video of myself doing the trick that you can watch if you need some help.

Um, Hi guys. These are great glitchs! However, I did happen to run into at least two new glitchs monthes ago. Not too importaint or anything, but here I go...
Glitch 1: I was playing in Wet Dry world, and the water level was at least near full. Remember that one cannon? Well, I went in it to go inside the cage leading to the town, when suddenly, the game made glitchy sounds. And when I blasted out of the cannon, Mario was almost completely limbless, and one of his eyes was missing. I could barely move in the water when he landed, So I restarted. The game might have just had a problem or something, but you never know....
Glitch two: I was fighting Bowser in the Lava Sea. Bowser was on the left side and tipped the platform. Mario, however, lost all his health as the platform went back to normal, and part of him was stuck in the ground. Bowser then started to walk over him....werid.
Just thought I'd like to share. P.S. N64chick, that's a cool website. --- Hey Steve! |
