Anywhere, hold Z and then press B to do the crouch kick. After you do one, if you press B right when he puts his hands back on his hat, he'll go "Woooo!" and not kick.

Hey friend of neo ninja, while you are here, do you know any glitches? Zoom up and look into the wall and you can see that there is water extending all the way under the castle. Can you find any wall glitches that will allow Mario to swim under there?
There are at least three other places in the game where something like this can be done. E.g. you can swim in Whomp's Fortress |

Tonight I finally beat the third bowser course with 57 stars. I finally messed with the backward longjump until I got it to work.
Actually it turns out I should have done my practice on the "endless stairs" from the start, for these are the only ones where you don't have to go back to start over if you stop (lol). And that allowed me to keep trying until I got it.
The curious thing is that if you die and get thrown out of the bowser course, the "endless stairs" music will still be playing. |

Okay, I know I'm commenting on kind of an old message now, but I discovered its a me mario's third glitch five years ago and I gotta put my two cents in. I think I have a theory on why sometimes you fall to your death instead of into the lagoon. I think to survive the fall (from both small rooms) you got to fall through one of the four openings in the ceiling of the cavern. But since you can't control where you fall to, you either fall through the holes or you don't. |
From: Bullet Bill | Posted: 7/17/2003 8:40:35 PM | Message Detail |
I don't think those are really openings. Nintendo didn't think Mario would be messing around up there anyway. There just light squares.
I can think of at least three places on the main floor where you can fall into a black pit and die. If you die falling to the underground lake, it's because you have entered the "dying event boxes" for one of those pits. And the game thinks you fell into one of them.
In the small room with the elevator to the red coin room, if you bounce off the door-side wall to do your fall there is more chance of dying than if you bounce off the wall opposite the door instead. If you do the latter, attempting to hook outside the wall of the underground lake will kill you. |

I have another trick I just remembered seeing. I saw it in a video game magazine a few years back. There was a way to get on the castle roof before you get 120 stars! All the article did was show a few pictures to diagram what you have to do. From what I remember, it seemed to involve sliding somewhere on the eastern slopes then jumping(probably more than once) to the eastern wall. Then you wall kick off the wall to the grass wall next to it, and kick off the grass wall to the roof! I don't remember from reading it if Yoshi was up there or not. Hell, I don't even remember which magazine it was, so I can't help you to search for that back issue! But I think the trick worked, or why else would it be printed? Please tell me if one of ya'll tried or seen this trick before. |

Yes. I have done it several times. And no, Yoshi is not up there until you get 120 stars. It involves, not a wall-kick, but a triple jump, a slide, and another jump.
Look at David Wonn's video to see it done: http://davidwonn.tcgn.net/images/castle0stars.mpg |

Well, I've been working with my backward speed jump. I finally zipped up the 50-star stairway so fast that I went right through the door and stopped next to the clock! So far I've done this twice tonight. The second time Lakitu didn't go through with Mario. If I can get this consistantly, this would allow me to give Bowser In the Sky a surprise visit with just 31 stars.
Another thing I have experimented with, which may be of interest to neo ninja, is the really steep part of the beach next to the cannon. I did the backward speed jump up this beach and got so fast it nearly scared me. In one case I shot across the stage and found myself halfway up the waterfall!
I am hoping to use this method to get underneath the castle if I can somehow find the right hill or wall to ram into. |

MORE on speed jumps. Here's how to shoot Mario out of the tomb entrance like a cannonball:
Enter the tunnel leading to the tomb. Walk a ways down the slope. Point the camera uphill toward Mario's face. Now start a series of backward longjumps from as low on the slope as you can get. If you time it right, you will shoot out of the opening so fast that you will land immediately at the pyramid starting point.
Well, it's time for dinner, and I've been feeling these rushing sensations because I've been working with the Mario speed-jump for so long. |

Oh, I got a very nice glitch for you, and I discover it ;).
Getting Flying Mario's Camera in Ground 1. Get to the top of the castle. 2. Take the flying cap and fall down. 3. Do the "Get on top of the castle with 0 stars" glitch from the right side. 4. When you grab from the edge of the castle, get up.
The game will think you are still flying, so when you press the C-buttons you can see mario from the top or the sides cameras while you're walking. If the cap vanishes or you do another triple jump, the glitch will end. I've found specially useful for seeing how the trees image work (putting at the side of the tree and pressing C-up).

I suppose you need to be good enough at the triple jump onto the roof trick to do this while he still has a wing cap.
But I also thought he would take off flying before you had a chance to get him to grab the edge.
Do you know if this can be done anywhere by just getting him to grab an edge while flying?

Using the backward long jump trick I was able to beat Bowser with 31 stars. I went back to the endless stairs to continue practicing the technique, and at one point I angled Mario a little off when he started speed-long-jumping. He got stuck against the wall for a while, and then suddenly he went through the wall/stairs and landed in the Wet-Dry World painting. |
From: PabloX rulz | Posted: 8/2/2003 7:55:54 PM | Message Detail |
I made a new discovery to add to my glitch. I experimented a bit more and see that you need to do the "triple jump on to the roof" trick with the flying cap, but it's not necesary to catch the edge of the castle roof. Just slide to the bottom and you'll have the weird camera!
But I also thought he would take off flying before you had a chance to get him to grab the edge. No. A split second before you hear the sound of air going through your ears, Mario will catch the edge. The same happens when you slide down.
Do you know if this can be done anywhere by just getting him to grab an edge while flying? I've tried, and realised that you can't normally catch the edges while flying.

I also managed to reach the top of the castle with 0 stars for the first time dispite knowing the technique for years. Hooray for me! Alternate 'Flying Corpse':
On bob-om Battlefield, knock your health down to two segments then grab a bob-om and run to the nearest cannon, stand with your back to the cannon. When the bob-om blows up you will die and be knocked into the cannon. Normal 'Flying Corpse' rules then apply.
You can use the winged cap to fly around, or you can 'Cannon Hop' to the other cannons without the winged cap if you are good enough. You can also try this on the 'Footrace with koopa the quick' star and try to fly to the flag on top of the mountain. --- Ladies and gentlemen, Yoshi has left the building! |

I finally did that flying trick where the camera is stuck in flying mode while Mario walks. At first it looks like something is just a bit off, until you discover you can watch him walk from the side.
I restored normal camera function by swimming.
If you could speed jump up the lobby stairs, you'd probably end up in that fake stairway we heard about. But the problem with these stairs is not primarly their shortness. The speed jump doesn't seem to work on stairs that are too steep. The basement stairs are also long enough that it seems you should be able to do the trick on them, but they are too steep as well. Too bad, because otherwise you might be able to fly through the back door and into another "black room".
David Wonn's site has been fodder for much discussion here, in particular his "hidden page", and the fact that his site had gone down before. This must be the second time now! Maybe he should create a mirror site or move it altogether.

Freak Mario: WARNING: Attempt at your own risk. You could accendently erase all game data.
Slowly and gentally raise the left side of the cartrage from the socket. Mario will be laying down with his legs up to his face making him look like he has a beard. Also, the sound will be scrambled. To unscramble the sound, slowly and gentally push the cartrage left side back in, don't do it too fast or the game will freaze.

Set the cork box very close to the ramp, and jump into the other side of the cork box. If you did it right, you should go through the wall and be under water, but be careful, if you do it to with the control stick all the way up, mario will fall to his doom. --- I'm a Wario, I'm a going to win. |

You just found the place where I got the swim in Whomp's Fortress trick. I merely found out a little more than David did. For instance, you don't have to either come back out or drown. You can surface under the wall if you know where to go. You can even swim back out through the wall to the starting point.
I represent People For the Ethical Treatment of Machines and I cannot abide tricks that require you to lift a live cartridge from the game. Bad idea unless you're sure you can easily replace both the game console and the cartridge. I for one can't see why David Wonn would have posted this one. He actually posted it a second time there, WITHOUT the warning.

Glad to hear. Now maybe his running monologue will have an explanation.
I just finished winning the game with 31 stars. Funny how Bowser and Peach say nothing to the effect of "What? You only got 31 stars?" But of course the game wasn't programmed with this feat in mind.
You will note when doing this trick that if you get thrown out of the Bowser In the Sky course back into the stair hall, the "endless stairs" music is still playing.
Now I am planning a new challenge. In Dire, Dire Docks while the sub is present, pick up the vanish cap and hurry to the top of the sub's fin. While you are still vanishing, try to jump up through the scaffold. If this can be done, next is to try it so that the cap wears off while you are still above it. Then maybe you can be walking around on top of it.
It would seem that you should be able to go up there, because for the first time I noticed that the "forbidden" area on top has bright yellow stripes around the edges.

Wanna get spooked? While you have less than 50 stars, do the backward speed jump up the stairs so you go through the door to the clock room. Now turn around and try to go back out through the door. You can't get back out!
Of course getting back down from here without resetting the game is a no-brainer, correct?

I have another trick I just remembered seeing. I saw it in a video game magazine a few years back. There was a way to get on the castle roof before you get 120 stars! All the article did was show a few pictures to diagram what you have to do. From what I remember, it seemed to involve sliding somewhere on the eastern slopes then jumping(probably more than once) to the eastern wall. Then you wall kick off the wall to the grass wall next to it, and kick off the grass wall to the roof!
See! I told you it had been a while since I read that article! I logged on to David Wonn's site about three weeks ago for the right way to do the trick(the loading took about ten minutes!), but I only started to work on it over a week ago. It was a little tougher than it looked! And kinda frustrating! But today, I really started to get the hang of it. In the two final failed tries I kept running into the space above wall adjacent to the castle. On the try after that, I finally did it! On top of the castle with no stars!!! I tried it again for a heat check, and within fifteen more tries I did it twice more! Hmmm, I wonder if Wonn was the one who submitted this trick to that magazine.
I then went to Wet-Dry World and tried another trick. You know the Lakitu< >Stop trick to get downtown the hard way? Well, I found a harder way to do it. I stopped the camera as I shot out of the cannon! On the second try I managed to get all the way downtown (the camera still looks through all the walls if you go far enough). I was barely able to get there in time for air. I even got the Metal Cap while still holding the camera on Stop (the Cap seems to last a little longer with the cam on Stop mode)!
The beat to Ice Cube's "Today Was A Good Day" is playing in my head right now!
But now I have questions about the backward long jump glitch. Learning the backwards long jump was easy enough (you can also jump sideways), but for the glitch, when exactly are supposed to jump through the "transition" spots? And do you have as much control over these speed jumps as regular long jumps? Bill, Neo, anybody, please answer!

Wow. And a couple of times while stopping Lakitu at the top of the cage, I drained downtown. You can see the whole water table surrounding the level go down.

You don't need to locate the transition spots (I assume you mean the mini-warp that makes the stairs endless). You just have to do the back longjumps up the stairs pumping A has fast as you can. You probably will need to switch to your index finger to do it well). And just keep going. Eventually Mario just begins to go up the stairs so fast you can't even see it. And before you know it, there's the top.
**************
OK, I did the "Swimming in whomp's fortress" glitch. I can't seem to swim more than a few strokes before I drop out of the bottom of the level though. Has anyone managed to swim far?
If you just died suddenly while swimming, you were too deep. The game thinks you fell out of the course because you were down too far. Also if you swim out of the water bounds you will just fall out. But sometimes the water can "catch you" again, and you pop back to the surface.
When diving down, as soon as Lakitu moves down next to you, look up and swim up. This should prevent you from diving so deep you die.
On the way back up, look at the surface to make sure you are staying within the water box.

I just picked up the "buried" coin inside the big snowman. Ever since first finding the coin, this place has kind of haunted me. It is located underneath the middle of the first wooden plank you come to after getting past the "ice machine". If you stand on the ground and look up at the right place, you will eventually spot a small glitched spot on the cliff that flashes a bit. This is the coin just slightly sticking out through the wall.
I eventually hit the coin by shooting at it. This is the only way I know of reaching it.
By the way, you can get up to the plank without having to deal with the ice machine. Just do a triple jump up the hill right in front. #1 lands at the foot of the hill, #2 lands near the top of the hill, #3 lands over the fence.
